Chapter Twenty-One

Leonis is gone as fast as the wind blows. I didn’t have the chance to ask him if I could come. He simply teleported, leaving me behind in the field with Yang’s stone golem.

The knight’s great sword and dagger rest firmly in my hands.

"Can you take me to High Priest Yang?" I ask the stone sentinel. The statue scratches its head before finally lowering its hand. It’s movement is sluggish, but with his giant stride, the golem is able to cover more grounds than I ever could. We reach Vermillion Palace’s entrance in no time.

All the Ksatrya Knights marching out from the palace gates are armed to the teeth. Joining their ranks are Artemis’s and Leonis’s copies, directing orders to their fellow soldiers. I look through the crowd for a familiar face.

The Golem points to the direction of High Priest Yang and Cassiopeia. They’re mounted on their Ninhar, ready to leave the palace.

“Thank you.” I climb off the Golem, patting him gratefully.

“Wait!” I shout, catching up to the two just in time.

“Princess,” Cassie greets, a little too surprised to see me. Her black leather military outfit suits her very well. Even marching to battle, the Potion Master looks like a beauty pageant. The things I learn from Leo today will have to wait. There are more pressing matters at hand.

“I’m leaving to set up a triage over the battlefield,” she says, eyes twinkling with a mix of fear and worry.

“A Duinne Circle has opened near the southeast entrance,” the High Priest informs.

“I know. I overheard the news you sent to the Lord Commander.” I pant breathlessly. My healing technique may be mediocre, but I won’t sit idly behind. “Please let me come with you.”

I thought my master would refuse me outright but his face brightens with relief. “Of course—”

“No, you may not.”

A stern voice interrupts the Noble from behind me.

“You haven’t fully mastered the Ignii,” Hunter replies from on top of Miu. He gracefully dismount the beast in one fluid motion and storms towards me. “Forgive me for my late arrival. Let us return to Bhoomi immediately.”

That order stuns me to a silence. I wonder for a moment if he is serious. He wants to abandon all our friends here and run to Earth?

“I’m going to help Cassie,” I state numbly.

His jaw clenches. “You can’t. It’s too dangerous, Princess.”

“I’m staying with them,” I insist, scowling at the sudden formality. I try looking into his eyes but there are no trace of the man I know.

Something seems off with Hunter…

“You’re not ready. Come with me.” His voice rasps, approaching to grab me.

I recoil from him and back away towards the High Priest. The flicker of hurt on Hunter’s face makes me hate myself for running away from him.

“I am as ready as I will ever be. I've improved so much in training, haven’t I?” I beseech my master for help.

“Yes, my dear,” the High Priest says softly.

“Have you lost your mind, Yang?” Hunter objects, meeting the Noble’s gaze. His face is stiff, devoid of emotion.
